1985 Jaguar Sovereign 4.2 Auto
Reg. no. C256 EHU
Chassis no. SAJJCALP3CC426789
Engine no. 8L1861148
By 1985, the long-running first generation of the Jaguar XJ, which had been in production since 1968, was to be found in much-updated Series 3 form. Offering, as ever, superb luxury and smoothness, the cars had been brought up to date with the addition of such advances as fuel injection for the 4.2 straight-six and 5.3 V12 engines, plus from 1983 a trip computer. In 1984, the ‘Sovereign’ name, previously used on the Daimler versions, was transferred to Jaguar and used to denote the new top-of-the-range model. With every luxury one could hope for in the mid-1980s, Jaguar Sovereigns – as with all XJs - found great favour with those who wanted the best in traditional British style and comfort.
This 1985 Jaguar Sovereign is the 4.2-litre straight-six version. Producing 205bhp and driving in this instance through a 3-speed Borg-Warner automatic gearbox, this drivetrain combination gives a superbly smooth driving experience. This example, in its classic Jaguar colour, is in good all-round condition and comes with a large file of documents from early in its life. It also comes with a current MOT and a current V5C.
