The C4 Corvette of 1983 to 1996 represented the fourth generation of Chevrolet’s iconic sportscar. A clean break from the previous generation, both the chassis and body were new, with the sharp new styling bringing the car thoroughly into line with 1980s tastes. On the interior, the dash was new, with the must-have 80s feature of electronic displays for the main dials. While most of the bodywork remained fibreglass – a famous Corvette feature – for the first time the rear panel and bumpers were made of moulded plastic instead. Fibreglass did however find its way to a new place on the car; a highly unusual feature was the front suspension, which used a single transverse fibreglass leaf spring. This weighed only 1/3 of the coil springs of the previous generation, while also functioning as an anti-roll bar. The all-round independent suspension and light weight made for a big improvement in handling over the previous generation. All C4s were fitted with a 5.7-litre V8, providing a classic Corvette soundtrack.
This 1989 Corvette is in excellent all-round condition; one just has to glance at the array of trophies it has won, and the amount of documentation that comes with it, to tell that this is a special car that has been extremely well looked-after. The subject of much expenditure, this car comes with a current V5C – and of course the very appropriate number plate, C14USA – plus a huge amount of literature, bills and history.
