By 1978 Japanese motorcycle manufacturers, and Honda in particular, were riding high on the crest of a wave, having successfully seen off the threat of the imploding British motorcycle industry, and having made huge inroads into the American market as well. The Honda CX500 launched in that year displayed the confidence that this success caused; among other things, it was liquid-cooled, shaft-driven, and could only be started by the electric starter. These were all uncommon features at the time but were to become common later as other manufacturers tried hard to keep up with the Honda juggernaut. The 500EC Sports of 1982 was much improved from the original, with better brakes, a sophisticated anti-dive system, and modernised styling.
This 1983 EC is in fair condition for its age and was running well when last used. The engine was rebuilt by the current owner, and when last used the bike had new tyres fitted by Avon for road noise testing. Now currently on sorn, this CX500 is sold with a V5c.
