1960 Triumph Herald Coupe
Reg. no. Unknown
Chassis no. Y7325L
Engine no. Y7927HE
The Triumph Herald was an immediate success when introduced in 1959; offering excellent economy from its small engine, initially of 948cc, with its Michelotti-designed body it also offered a certain stylishness that perhaps wasn’t found so much in many of its rivals. Quick rack and pinion steering gave a turning circle of just 25 feet, making this a perfect city car. A variety of two-tone paint schemes were offered, and there were several body styles to choose from, all 2-door models – saloon, coupe, convertible and estate. The 948cc coupe was discontinued in 1961, replaced with a larger-engined version, and it is thought that only around 269 survive worldwide today.
This is a particularly well-travelled example of a 948cc coupe. Built in left-hand-drive form for export to Canada, it later found its way to Arizona, and then California where it was laid up in 1983. Imported to the UK last year, with all import paperwork completed, it is said to be in very sound rust-free condition. The engine turns and appears complete. The car comes with a large quantity of spares and looks to be an excellent project for returning a rare version of this iconic model to the road.
