Instantly recognisable the world over, the Land Rover is one of the greatest ever success stories of the automotive world. First introduced in 1948, its longevity and rugged strength were to prove the stuff of legend. Introduced in 1958, the Series II was available with either the 2,286cc petrol engine or the newly developed 2,052cc diesel first seen in 1956 on what became known retrospectively as the ‘Series I’. By this time the original permanent four-wheel drive freewheel transmission had been superseded by the more conventional selectable two or four-wheel drive arrangement. For the Series IIA the diesel engine was enlarged to 2,286cc and a new 12-seater model introduced on the longer (109”) wheelbase chassis. This 1971 Series IIA is finshed in a very attractive cream/limestone colour scheme, and a full restoration was carried out in 2014 at a cost of about £18,000, by Warne Land Rovers. There is an accompanying sheet of work carried out including an engine rebuild, a new galvanised chassis and a complete respray. In addition the vehicle was fitted with the modern day features of a power steering kit and a winch kit. The mileage is around 21,500, but only 1,000 of these have been covered since the work was carried out. The result is a very smart and useable vehicle either for towing your classic or for recreational use. Within the file there are bills and a V5c.
