Lot 2021

Description:

1980 BMW R80/7
Reg. no. LGY 380W
Frame no. 6031933
Engine no. 6031933
The horizontally opposed twin engine originated as early as 1921 when BMW started producing engines for other companies. They started building their own motorcycles using the opposed twin and a shaft drive in 1923; it was named the R32. The R Series engine had great success in the 1930s on the race track with a supercharged 500cc bike. In the 1950/60s they were still renowned for their success on the track, this time powering motorcycle sidecar racers. The R Series is still in production today, now liquid cooled. Our vendor tells us that he restored this R80 in 2009 and that the bike is still in good overall condition. He offers it here with a V5c, a selection of bills and a current MOT that expires in November this year.
