Lot 2018

Description:

1942 BSA M20
Reg. no. PTO 90G
Frame no. 71869
Engine no. 8448
The mainstay of BSA\'s war effort was the M20 dispatch rider\'s bike which proved its worth during the conflict. Having been supplied in limited numbers before the outbreak of WWII, war production soared to a total of over 125,000 machines. After the war the ex-WD bikes were sold off in batches and eagerly purchased by the public, at a time when most new machines were going for export to earn much-needed foreign currency. Although the V5c dates the first registration as 1968, there is a letter from the VMCC with an authenticated copy from the military card records stating the frame number, which fits into the frame sequence of 10,000 BSAs ordered by the military in 1942. Purchased by the late owner in 1973, this bike was used as a daily steed to go to and from work for many years. In the file is a V5c, and two green logbooks, in addition to some old MOTs etc.
