Engine no. 9E 544 B 305
One of our local West Country manufacturers, Cotton was started in 1919 by F.W. Cotton in Gloucester. Known in the 1920s and 1930s for its triangulated frame construction being powered by JAP and Blackburn motors, they had some success on the race track, winning the 1923 Junior Isle of Man TT at an average speed 2mph faster than the senior race.
After the war, Cotton continued in 1953 with a range of lightweight 2-stroke motorcycles, powered by Anzani and Villiers engines. The bike in the auction is one of a range of competition bikes that has recently had an engine rebuild upgrading it to 250cc and the frame has been fitted with a bespoke alloy petrol tank. Now said to be in very good general condition this Cotton is sold with a current V5c.
