Lot 1986

1934 Austin 16/6 Berkley Saloon
Reg. no. UJ 3214
Chassis no. 35625
Engine no. 34720/26
The 16/6 was introduced during late 1927 based around a sturdy ladder frame chassis equipped with all-round semi-elliptic leaf-sprung suspension and four-wheel drum brakes, to bridge the gap between the highly popular 12/4 and the vastly more expensive 20 range. Powered by a torquey six-cylinder sidevalve engine allied to four-speed manual transmission, the model was reputedly capable of 60mph and 21mpg. Remaining in production until 1936, the 16/6 proved a good seller exhibiting traditional Austin virtues of strength, reliability and dependability. This example has been under restoration for the past 10 years on behalf of its late owner at a cost of £12,000. Unfortunately the car was never finished and it is offered in a dismantled state having had much work already carried out. We understand that the engine has been rebuilt by a marque specialist. There is a V5c.
