Lot 1982

Description:

1985 Jaguar XJ6 Saloon
Reg. no. C256 EHU
Chassis no. SAJJCALP3LL426789
Engine no. 8L186114H
Launched in 1968, the XJ replaced not one but four cars in the Jaguar range – the 240/340, the S-Type, the 420, and the 420G. Before long more upmarket Daimler versions were introduced, and by 1972 the cars were available in long or short wheelbase forms, with three engine options – 2.8 or 4.2 litre straight-sixes, or a 5.3 litre V12. Thus the car successfully covered all the bases that its multiple predecessors had, while also reducing production costs. The XJ was revised twice during its 24-year life – the first time in 1973, and the second in 1979. In 1983, the ‘Sovereign’ model name was transferred from the Daimler version to the top-of-the-range Jaguar. Beautifully finished in leather and wood, the interiors of these cars are the definition of classic British luxury.
This 1985 4.2 litre Sovereign is described by the vendor as ‘absolutely beautiful’, and he states that the only area which could be improved is the headlining. Restored within the last five years, the car has covered a genuine 63,000 miles, with service history and MOTs in the file to prove this. Said to drive exactly as it should by its owner, this Jaguar comes with an MOT until January 2018, a V5c, and the aforementioned MOTs and service history.
