Lot 1947

1934 Austin 12 Ascot
Reg. no. JH 6851
Chassis no. F19361
Engine no. IH11030
In the early 1930s the Light 12/4 and Light 12/6 were launched as facelift models replacing the now old-fashioned looking Heavy 12/4. The new models were given wire wheels, a part synchromesh gearbox and coil ignition. Austin also dropped the tourer option from their range in 1934. This car was purchased in 1991 and it has undergone a full restoration, which was most necessary due to the car being stored in a barn that caught fire! A full body-off restoration was undertaken and duly completed in 1994. Work carried out included new ash framing, a new sunroof, a gearbox overhaul and new leather upholstery. The original six-cylinder engine has also been exchanged for the more economical 4-cylinder unit. Since the restoration, the Austin has always been garaged and according to our vendor the car \'starts-on-the-button\'. The body is very spacious and offers a comfortable ride, being used on occasions by the current owner for weddings of family and friends. This is a well-loved car that is only being sold because it has been underused. It is sold with a V5c.
