The 993 was Porsche\'s title for their 911s built and sold between late 1993 and early 1998, and its discontinuation marked the end of air-cooled Porsches and as such will always have a special place in the affections of Porsche enthusiasts. It is also widely regarded as the last of the 911s that were built whilst engineering integrity overruled accounting pressures at Porsche. Twenty years on, it still looks modern - a truly timeless design. The 993 generation of the 911 is often referred to as the best and most desirable of the 911 series, not only because ot its beauty, but also because its performance is excellent, even by todays standards.
The 993 incorporated many technological advances and the model made significant progress with the engine and the handling, creating a more civilised car with better than ever quality yet one in which the driving experience remained uncompromised. The 993 was also the first 911 to receive a six speed gearbox. The biggest change under the skin was the new multi-link rear suspension, giving greater driver confidence, less road noise, and excellent ride quality. Designed to give a level of passive rear-wheel steering (the ‘Weissach effect\'), thus controlling the way the suspension behaved under cornering, braking, and acceleration, it transformed the 911. The 993 was also the first 911 to be equipped with power steering and an advanced ABS system. By 1995 a top speed close to 170mph was achieved and for the spirited driver there was acceleration to match.
This example took pride of place in a large car collection, and it was the car most readily available to drive at any one time, which speaks volumes about the 993 and the regard in which it was held. Cosseted under a bespoke car cover, this Porsche has been cherished for 13 years. Details of the purchase in 2004 are held within the history file and the car is currently MOT\'d. A short period of no use recently should result in some light recommissioing prior to use and then the open road this summer is yours to enjoy. There is a V5c, a selecton of MOT certificates and sundry paperwork relating to the car.
