1997 BMW Z3 Convertible
Reg. no. R209 OMF
Chassis no. WBACJ32060LB85856
Engine no. Z6088702
The Z3 went on sale in 1995, four years after BMW’s bruising experience with the ambitious Z1 had come to an unsatisfactory end. With no Z2 ever evident, the new car marked BMW’s re-entry into the sports car market, and this time around, they had decided to go about it in an altogether more conventional way. Gone were the Z1’s vertically retracting doors and plastic body panels. This new approach paid off, as the Z3 proved to be much easier to make, and also, crucially, much easier to sell. All cars were built in South Carolina, and the USA was a key market, but the model also enjoyed worldwide popularity, no doubt helped by its starring role in the 1995 James Bond film GoldenEye.
This 1997 car features the largest engine then available, the 2.8 litre, 190bhp straight-six, which gives a 144mph top speed and 0-60 in 6.6 seconds. In good condition for its age, it has been owned by the same family for the last 16 years and comes with service history from new, an MOT until August next year, and a V5c.
