Lot 1893

1959 Matchless G3L 350cc
Reg. no. XDD 24
Frame no. A62199
Engine no. G3LS36074
This bike was produced in large numbers throughout the second world war and immediately afterwards; some 80,000 bikes were supplied to the WD. It was very popular as it was the first WD bike to be fitted with telescopic forks; it stayed in service up until 1960 when it was replaced with the BSA B40. After the war it was popular for everyday transport and found to be very reliable for the average family man. The bike in the auction, although not having had a complete restoration, the engine, gearbox and clutch have been rebuilt, and they have only covered 200 miles since. The wiring has been replaced and therefore it is said to be in very serviceable condition. It is sold with a current V5c.
