Lot 1891

1951 Douglas Mark V 350cc
Reg. no. LXJ 782
Frame no. 11131/5
Engine no. 1113T - 5
The Douglas factory was started by the Douglas brothers, William and Edward carrying out blacksmith work which progressed into foundry work. Douglas took over the rights to manufacture a small horizontally opposed twin from the Light Motors Ltd and by 1907 they were producing their own 350cc version and started producing motorbikes. During WWI Douglas was a major motorcycle supplier to the military, producing over 70,000 machines and by 1920 Douglas held a Royal Warrant supplying motorcycles to Prince Albert and Henry. Production carried on with the twin until 1957 when motorcycle production eventually ceased. This example is the Mark V that was only produced in 1951 and it forms part of a collection that has been stored for some years, and therefore will require recommissioning. It is sold with a V5c.
