CZ were a Czechoslovakian arms manufacturer who started making bicycles in the mid-1930s, before moving into motorcycle production. CZ came to prominence in this country during the early 1960s when they began to import very competitive motocross bikes, examples of which won the 250cc World Championship in 1964 and 1965 and again in 1968 and 1969. A CZ also won the 500cc World Championship in 1967 and 1968. They also did very well in international six-day trials claiming some 15 victories between 1947 and 1982. The bike in the auction was ridden in pre-1965 motocross by the vendor before he carried out a partial restoration, which included an engine rebuild, the fitting of many new parts and work on the cycle parts. He now advises us that the bike is in good all-round condition, having seen very little recent use.
