Lot 1837

1923 Raleigh 2 3/4HP 350cc
Reg. no. RX 7646
Frame no. 2383
Engine no. 6850
Founded by Frank Bowden, Raleigh made motor cycles from 1899 to 1906 and then again from 1919 to 1933; the company also developed engines for many manufacturers in Britain and Europe. In the mid 1930s after developing a 798cc VT twin, Raleigh even briefly built lightweight 3-wheeled delivery vans; the rights of these 3-wheelers were acquired by T. L. Williams who later started up the Reliant Motor Company. The bike in the auction was acquired by the present owner in 1981 but he has never restored it; we understand however that it is fairly complete and the engine turns over. In the file is the all-important V5c for the original registration number and also copies of the Raleigh and Regent owner\'s club magazine from the 1970s to the present day.
